By now we are all aware of the incident in Chicago on Friday night at the Rally that wasn’t. We had protesters against Trump in general that showed up in force seemingly to prevent Trump from speaking. Up till now Trump’s positions on the incident are varied and changing , which is normal as he often changes his mind, and what passes for his thoughts, in mid-sentence. He has cited the socioeconomic position of African-American youth as cause. Trump has blamed the anger and division he says he has witnessed in the nation as cause for the problem of his supporters and his protesters clashing. He has blamed Bernie Sanders for sending his people to disrupt and assault Trump supporters. He has not once accepted or even acknowledged that his own rhetoric may be at fault, even in part.
Trump claims repeatedly he does not condone violence and in the same moment defends the violence of his people and staff. He claimed a man that charged the stage was from ISIS. He routinely calls his protesters “bad dudes,” and “dangerous people.” How does he know? He doesn’t, but to the Trump supporter proof is not needed.
Some examples of his peaceful and thoughtful comments are below. Only some mind you as to list all his garbage is time consuming.
“Laziness is a trait in the blacks. … Black guys counting my money! I hate it.”
“The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yamakas every day.”
“One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace. Good people don’t go into government.”
“If you see any somebody throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Just knock the hell out of them…. I’ll pay for the legal fees, I promise.”
“In the good old days, this doesn’t happen because they used to treat them very very rough. And when they protested once, ya know, they would not do it again so easily… they get away with murder because we’ve become weak. We’ve become weak.”
“Part of the problem, and part of the reason it takes so long is nobody wants to hurt each other anymore, right?… Our country has to toughen up, folks. We have to toughen up. These people are bringing us down, remember that they’re bringing us down… These are not good people. These are not the people that are going to make our country great… these are the people that are destroying our country.”
“I’d like to punch him in the face,” Trump said, remarking that a man disrupting his rally was escorted out with a smile on his face. “He’s smiling, having a good time.”
“In the old days, [protesters would be] carried out on stretchers.”
“In the good ol’ days, they’d have ripped him out of that seat so fast.”
“Knock the crap out of him, would you? Seriously, OK just knock the hell — I promise you I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise,
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.”
“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters,”
“In the Middle East, we have people chopping the heads off Christians, we have people chopping the heads off many other people. We have things that we have never seen before — as a group, we have never seen before, what’s happening right now. The medieval times — I mean, we studied medieval times — not since medieval times have people seen what’s going on. I would bring back waterboarding and I’d bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”
…On MSNBC on Wednesday, journalist Bob Woodward asked Trump, “Would you be willing to go to war to make sure we get the money to pay for this wall?”
“Trust me, Bob, when I rejuvenate our military, Mexico’s not going to be playing with us with war, that I can tell you. Mexico isn’t playing with us with war,” Trump responded Wednesday.
Now I am not bright enough I suppose to see the peaceful, uniting qualities in such statements unless, what he means when he tells us he is not a divider but a person bent on uniting this nation, unless he means he will unite pockets of this nation. He will unite the Muslim Americans in camps with tags declaring them a danger to others. He will unite the Latino portion of America in camps to deport them regardless of their American citizenship. (Trump thinks we do not interpret the 14th amendment correctly) Maybe he will unite African Americans in a lazy area of the nation and Jewish citizens in an area where they can be his accountants. Surely he will unite the white supremacists an a league of supporters and voters for himself. I think Trump has strange notions of how we, as a nation, need to be united. What I wish for is that he will unite us, unintentionally, in support of one another, this nation, and our dignity, against him and his followers.
The bottom line in all this mess is quite simple to locate. Sure the protesters are sometimes wrong in their overzealous attempts to shut Trump down. Protest as you like but remain peaceful. And likewise his followers, while I do not appreciate them, or have any use for them, get overzealous also in their desire to do whatever it is Trump is telling them too. In the end though, it all falls to trump and his rhetoric. If you don’t start nuthin there won’t be nuthin. Trump decided to start something. He has called down the thunder and refuses to acknowledge it is his to deal with. He did likewise with deferments from Vietnam and the like.
Trump likes to pretend at leadership, and intelligence but he has never really achieved either. He likes to pretend humble beginnings, he has none. He likes to pretend at popularity, he has no real popularity as what they like him for is just another lie. He likes to pretend he is tanned and not bald, both clearly untrue. He likes to pretend he is a ladies man but take away his money and see how long those ladies, and children, stick with him. Trump’s current pretend thing is to pretend he is innocent in all this violence surrounding his campaign. He is not. I wish, if only for a moment, the secret service and police protecting him would pause. Let one “bad dude” through just so we can all watch Trump demonstrate this tough guy persona he so pretends to have.
